Our Coaching Staff

Adam Smiley
Mr. Smiley is in his 11th year of teaching and coaching. He was a member of the Chattahoochee coaching staff from 1999-2006. During that time, the team enjoyed consistent national success. While at Chattahoochee, Mr. Smiley helped coach teams to State Championships in 2003, 2004, and 2005. He was also awarded the Georgia Forensic Coaches Association award for Coach of the Year in 2004. This is his 6th year coaching at Alpharetta and has literally built the team from the ground up into a nationally recognized, travelling, TOC competitive team.

He believes that debate is valuable for students because it helps them explore their own values, learn about government decision-making, develop critical thinking skills, and learn research skills.

3rd Year Debaters - Varsity

Tucker Boyce

I'm a third year debater who's greatest experience so far was going Varsity at UGA 2010 with Chelsea Ashworth as a novice -- I learned a great amount and hit some teams that were top 20 nationally. I like debate because it is a group of people who are all interested in politics and the world, and I like the clash that comes with debating as well as the people you meet from participating. Outside of debate, I like to travel. My goal for this year is to break at the Wake Forest Tournament and do well and to go 4-2 at Ohio Valley.

UPDATE - Tucker didn't just break at Wake Forest but along with his partner James Pitman, won the Jr. Varsity Division. Tucker was also honored by receiving the Top Speaker award.
