Sophomore teams were placed in four pods of six teams each. They debated each team in their pod with the top two teams in each pod advancing into elimination rounds. There were two judges in each round. Unlike other tournaments, however, each judge had single vote and the winners were based on the cumulative number of votes received out of a total of 10 and NOT the number of rounds won.
